On a home you plan to keep, usually yes. Standing seam hides every fastener under the panel, so there are no gasketed screws to age, loosen, or leak, and the panels float with temperature swings. Screw-down costs less and works fine on garages and outbuildings, but it needs periodic fastener maintenance for life.
Are metal roofs loud when it rains?
